Behind the Results: My Journey with the Illinois Family Roots Pilot Program

There is something deeply profound about helping people uncover where they come from. Lately, I’ve had the privilege of working on the backend of the Illinois Family Roots Pilot Program, and it has been an incredible ride.

Here are a few highlights from my journey so far:

  • The Joy of Service: I love customer service, and in genetic genealogy, tech support is personal. Whether I'm troubleshooting account access or coordinating DNA kit logistics, knowing that every solved issue brings someone closer to their history is wildly rewarding. Seeing the pure joy on participants' faces when they get their results is a feeling like no other.

  • Learning & Growth: Being part of a pilot program means a front-row seat to evolution. I've loved learning the intricate science and workflow of how DNA results process, while simultaneously witnessing continuous improvements to our platform's site and system.

  • Waiting on Both Sides: Right now, I'm living in two worlds. While I am working hard behind the scenes to ensure individuals get their data smoothly, I am also a participant. The anticipation of waiting on my own DNA results gives me a unique empathy for everyone going through the process!

This program is doing vital, beautiful work, and we are just getting started. I can't wait to see it grow and to keep sharing these incredible experiences along the way!
